A Santa Ana man was in critical condition Sunday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center after being hit by a truck as he stood outside his disabled vehicle along Oxnard Boulevard, officials said.
Gerald Buxton, 62, was outside his Toyota Landcruiser on Oxnard Boulevard just north of Orchard Place on Saturday evening when a small truck driven by David Christopher Estey, 27, of Thousand Oaks slammed into Buxton and his vehicle, Oxnard police said.
Buxton, a minister, was thrown 90 feet and landed on the sidewalk with severe internal injuries, according to police.
Investigators said Estey lost control of his car after the impact and ran over the sidewalk before coming to rest in a drainage ditch.
Estey, who was not injured, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 19 in Ventura County Municipal Court.
