Parks: Trial Period for Off-Leash Dogs

Over the course of the six-month off-leash trial period for dogs in two Santa Monica parks, neighbors adjacent to Joslyn Park documented and reported more than 200 violations of the city ordinance. We also voiced concern over conflicts with county health and safety codes.
Rather than simply complain, we have made specific observations and suggestions. The most important of these is for Santa Monica to open within the next six months a dedicated site in a non-residential area which does not deprive city residents of any existing park space and allows for extensive use by off-leash dogs.
