Area Players to Be in Water Polo Championships

Seven players with Orange County ties have been selected to the 13-member United States water polo team that plays in the VII World Championships Sept. 1-11 in Rome.
Gavin Arroyo and Doug Kimbell played at Villa Park High, Eriks Krumins is from Newport Harbor High, Chris Oeding played at Corona del Mar High, Dan Hackett played at Irvine High, Jeremy Laster played at San Clemente High and Chi Kredell is from Seal Beach.
The top 16 teams in the world are competing in the championship and the top six qualify for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. As the host nation, the U.S. team already has qualified.

Joe Koh said Friday he has been hired as the baseball coach at Corona del Mar High School.
Koh was an assistant coach at Los Angeles Pierce College the past four seasons. Piece won Western Conference championships in 1991 and 1992. Koh was the head coach at North Hills L.A. Baptist High School in 1990 and an assistant at Chatsworth the two seasons before that.
He replaces Matt Lundin, who was fired in June. Corona del Mar was 18-9 last season.
