BREA : Apartment Units for Seniors OKd
The City Council has tentatively approved zoning changes and an amendment to Brea’s land-use plan to allow construction of a 108-unit apartment complex for senior citizens. The project is proposed for a two-acre site on North Brea Boulevard near West Central Avenue.
The vote last week was 4 to 0 in favor of the project. Councilman Burnie Dunlap abstained because he is the director of insurance services at Brea Community Hospital, which is near the proposed apartment site.
Some of the council members expressed concern that only 84 parking spaces are planned for the complex. A survey of senior apartment complexes in the area indicated that the amount of parking was adequate, however.
Final approval of the project is expected to be considered at the next council meeting on Sept. 6.
