Gore Forced to Wear Cast After Tendon Injury

WASHINGTON — Vice President Al Gore was sent home from the hospital Monday but will have to wear a splint or a cast for six months while he recovers from injuring his left Achilles’ tendon while playing basketball.
Gore, 46, underwent surgery Saturday night to fuse the Achilles’ tendon, which joins the muscles of the calf to the bone of the heel. Aides said he was in good spirits and planned to keep his full schedule.
Waving to reporters, Gore left Bethesda Naval Hospital, in suburban Washington, wearing a splint on his lower left leg. He will get a cast next week and will be forced to use crutches for at least eight weeks, aides said.
“He’s expected to have a full recovery,” spokeswoman Heidi Kukis said.
Gore hurt himself playing ball at the House gym with former congressional colleagues.
