PORT HUENEME : Task Force Considers Future of Lab Site

A Port Hueneme task force today is scheduled to discuss the future of Port Hueneme’s Naval Civil Engineer Laboratory, which will be closed in April, 1996.
The 20-member task force, which includes city officials, residents and government representatives, plans to explore how the city and the U.S. Navy should use the 33-acre site once the lab is closed, said Tom Figg, Port Hueneme director of community development.
The possibilities for the site include a city park and a homeless shelter, Figg said. This is the second of a series of meetings the task force plans.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will take place at 7 p.m. at the Orvene S. Carpenter Community Center.
