8 Arrested in Drunk Driving Crackdown

Eight Labor Day holiday revelers who got behind the wheel in Ventura County were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving during a special maximum-enforcement period from 6 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Two more motorists were being investigated late Sunday for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, but those arrests could not be immediately confirmed.
Despite the sunny weather that drew large numbers of people to the area’s beaches, state lifeguards reported no major rescues or incidents. Likewise, local U.S. Coast Guard officials said they were not involved in any major rescues in area waters.
National Weather Service meteorologist Scott Entrekin said that Ventura County residents can expect another warm and sunny day today after midmorning low clouds burn off. Daytime high temperatures are expected to climb to the mid-70s along the coast and higher in the county’s inland areas.
