MARINA DEL REY : Coastal Panel Will Weigh Dredging Plan
- Share via
An Army Corps of Engineers plan to dredge accumulated debris from the Marina del Rey entrance channel and dispose of it in the port will be discussed at a public hearing next week.
Originally scheduled to take place in Long Beach last month, the California Coastal Commission hearing was postponed so that more information could be gathered about the plan. The commission decided to conduct the hearing at its next regular meeting: Sept. 15 in Eureka.
A Coastal Commission staff report has recommended rejecting the plan, which would put the dredged waste on the port’s ocean floor. Commission spokesman Larry Simon recently said the waste is contaminated with pollutants that have drained into the channel from Ballona Creek.
The public hearing will be at the Eureka Inn, at 7th and F streets, at 9 a.m.
