Three gunmen hijacked a tour bus bound from Monterey Park to Las Vegas on Saturday, robbing the tour guide and 40 passengers of more than $20,000, authorities said.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokeswoman Diane Hecht said the gunmen boarded the bus at a stop in Rowland Heights on Saturday morning, ordered the driver to go to a nearby street and ran away after demanding that the passengers empty their wallets and purses.
One suspect, Yen Chiu, 22, was arrested and held for investigation of robbery and kidnaping at the Walnut sheriff’s station, Hecht said. Chiu was being held on $35,000 bail, deputies said. The other suspects remained at large late Saturday.
The incident occurred after the AA Tour bus stopped in Rowland Heights to pick up eight passengers, three of whom turned out to be the robbery suspects. There were no reported injuries, Hecht said.
