Moscow to Investigate Student’s Death

MOSCOW — Prosecutors are opening an investigation into the death of an American exchange student who was found strangled outside his Moscow dormitory.
Anthony Riccio, 21, of Glastonbury, Conn., was apparently thrown off a 16th-floor balcony Sept. 20 after being killed. Russian police at first suggested he had committed suicide.
The preliminary autopsy said Riccio had been murdered. The U.S. Embassy said “laboratory tests showed no drugs or alcohol in Mr. Riccio’s blood.”
The Brown University junior arrived in Moscow last month to study for a year at Russian State University for the Humanities in the American Collegiate Consortium program sponsored by Middlebury College in Vermont.
Five other Americans in Riccio’s program were moved out of the dormitory and will continue their studies outside Moscow.
