Homeless Aid: Fountain Yields Change for Charity

The coins that pedestrians drop into dolphin sculptures on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade add up to not-so-small change.
A total of $12,000 collected from the Promenade’s dolphin fountain and dolphin heads has been turned over to a Los Angeles charity for distribution to homeless support agencies serving Santa Monica.
The donations were collected over seven months as part of the Dolphin Change Program. Founded one year ago to raise money for the homeless, the program is run by the Bayside District Corp., a nonprofit agency that manages the Promenade.
The $12,000 will be distributed by the California Community Foundation, established in 1915, which will administer the funds to the selected homeless support agencies around Santa Monica on Nov. 15.
