PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — A suspected paramilitary group member drove a truck into a pro-democracy demonstration in a town west of the Haitian capital Sunday, killing at least 14 people.
Journalists at the scene in the town of Miragoane said witnesses identified the driver as a member of the Front for the Advancement and Progress of Haiti (FRAPH), the country’s most feared paramilitary group. The witnesses said he deliberately drove his vehicle into the rally and sped away.
It was the second incident in three days involving a vehicle plowing into supporters of exiled President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. On Friday, a bus drove into a demonstration in St.-Marc, killing at least four people.
