Woman Dies After Pickup Strikes Car

PACOIMA — A 46-year-old woman was killed Sunday when a pickup truck slammed into her car as she made an illegal U-turn, Los Angeles police said.

Carmen Gallardo of Panorama City was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Gallardo’s 10-year-old daughter, who was traveling with her mother, was hospitalized. Her injuries were not life-threatening, said Sgt. Frank Zdroy.

The accident occurred about 4:15 p.m. when Gallardo, who was parked on Osborne Street near Bartee Avenue, pulled out to make a U-turn, police said.

Gallardo apparently did not see the truck approaching, Zdroy said. The driver of the pickup was not seriously injured and was not speeding at the time, police said.
