Kalkman Upsets Vandierendonck in Women’s Final

Monique Kalkman upset top-seeded Chantal Vandierendonck, 7-6, 2-6, 6-1, in the final of the women’s U.S. Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships Saturday at The Racquet Club of Irvine.
In today’s men’s final at noon, Jim Black of Oceanside, seeded 10th, will play No. 5 Steve Welch.
Black beat fourth-seeded Mick Connell of Australia, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, Saturday. Welch beat David Hall, 6-4, 6-2.
