Four-Star Films : ‘Wuthering Heights’

This 1939 William Wyler version of Emily Bronte’s passionate and inspired novel of l’amour on the lightning-lashed moors and gloomy heaths is the best and most successful on screen. With Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff and Merle Oberon as Cathy (both pictured), the film also features David Niven, Flora Robson, Donald Crisp and Geraldine Fitzgerald. The script is by Ben Hecht and Charles McArthur (AMC Wednesday at 10 a.m.).
