E. John Lewis; Co-Founder of Pacifica Network

E. John Lewis, 78, a founder of the Pacifica radio network. With his friend Lewis Hill, Lewis started the Pacifica Foundation in 1949 with station KPFA in Berkeley. The station became known for its liberal posture and by the 1960s was one of the leading voices in the country against the Vietnam War. Lewis, a Quaker, had been jailed briefly during World War II as a conscientious objector. Lewis was a graduate of Occidental College and Claremont Graduate School. He eventually left the radio business and became a life insurance company representative. In Plandome, Long Island, N.Y., on Oct. 11 of a heart attack.
