LONG BEACH : Gas Co. Gives Donation to Save Our Shipyard
- Share via
The Southern California Gas Co. has contributed $40,000 to a nonprofit organization that has been working to keep the Naval Shipyard in Long Beach open.
The contribution is one of the largest donations made to Save Our Shipyard, which has collected $187,000 from 191 people and businesses since November, said chairman Bill Gurzi. Most of the money goes to a lobbying firm in Washington, he said.
A shutdown would mean the loss of 3,000 jobs and $350 million in wages and contracts for the area, according to a city study.
