Carolco Gets $18.5 Million in Cash: The struggling producer used several methods to raise the money, including, as expected, selling its interest in the film “Showgirls” to an affiliate of the French media concern Chargeurs. In addition, Japan’s Pioneer prepaid some money due under licenses for Carolco’s “Cliffhanger” and “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” films. Carolco said it is continuing to work to obtain a $63-million production loan for the film “Cutthroat Island.” Carolco reiterated that if it fails to get the loan and cannot arrange alternative financing, it will be forced to halt production on “Cutthroat Island.”
