COMMERCE : Volunteers Sought for Disaster Training

The city is seeking volunteers who will be trained to help authorities assess damage and provide aid during disasters.
The city will provide the training free of charge. Volunteers should be physically fit and available to work at times requested by the city.
Duties may include helping direct out-of-town emergency workers around the city, taking stock of damage or assisting officials at shelters run by the city and American Red Cross.
All volunteers will receive training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Training sessions will be at the City Hall Annex, 5550 Harbor St., today from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
