HUNTINGTON BEACH — Three children and their mother were in critical condition Thursday night after their van collided with another car at Warner Avenue and Springdale Street, police said.
Police Lt. Jeff Cope said witnesses told police that Laurie K. Reed, 27, of Huntington Beach ran a red light and her Volkswagen van broadsided the other car about 4 p.m.
Reed was in critical condition with head and internal injuries after being taken by helicopter to UCI Medical Center in Orange.
Her three children, who were not wearing seat belts, also were critically injured, Cope said. Cathy, 9, Jessie, 5, and Laurie, 5, all suffered severe head injuries, he said. They also were taken to UCI Medical Center.
The other driver, Ryan Benz of Huntington Beach, was in serious condition at Huntington Beach Medical Center.
No citations were issued.
Cope said the investigation was continuing.
