RELIGIOUS REVIVAL: As Election Day approaches, some politicians will enter a lion’s den to solicit votes. Three Simi Valley council candidates faced tough questioning Friday at a forum sponsored by a Christian radio network (B5) . . . . A church leader wanted to know why they didn’t participate in a voters’ guide. One candidate said the answers were lost in the mail. Another never got the questionnaire. A third objected to some questions as irrelevant--and was scolded by his host George Otis: “If you want to be elected, this is a good voting block.”

LAND GRAB? Possession is nine-tenths of the law, as the saying goes. Following that maxim, Ventura officials are considering annexing Weldon Canyon so they can determine if a garbage dump is built there (B1). . . . City leaders oppose locating a landfill in the canyon 2 1/2 miles north of Ventura’s city limit. They only have to look to Bailard Landfill to see the pitfalls of a dump outside city control. Oxnard officials want Bailard to close, but there’s no place else for the trash to go.
