Businessman Faces Domestic Violence Charge

Oxnard real estate speculator Donald T. Kojima, who sold the city 41 acres of farmland for a school and low-income housing project, has been arrested on suspicion of striking a Ventura woman and knocking her down, police said.

Kojima was arrested at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ventura police station after turning himself in to Detective Lynn Klamser. He was released from County Jail on Friday morning on a promise that he would appear in court to face a domestic violence charge.

Ventura Police Lt. Mike Tracy said the arrest stemmed from an Oct. 18 incident in which Kojima allegedly struck a 40-year-old woman in the face, knocking her to the floor of her east Ventura home.

The woman, who described Kojima as her boyfriend, said he hit her after entering her house at 1:55 a.m., Tracy said. The woman called police a few minutes later.

Kojima could not be reached for comment. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

The Oxnard City Council bought the 41 acres from Kojima for $5.32 million in August. The land will be used for houses, a school and a park.
