In another Olympic League game:

Calvary Chapel 33, Whittier Christian 6--Calvary Chapel’s running game, led by David Kuhn and Kan Nash, took control in the second half and overpowered Whittier Christian, 33-6, at Westminster High School.

For Calvary Chapel (4-4, 1-2), Kuhn was the workhorse. He carried the ball 26 times for 172 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, to give the Eagles a 7-6 lead. Kuhn ran for 125 of his 172 yards in the second half.

Nash had 71 yards in 11 carries, including three one-yard touchdown runs.

Whittier Christian (5-4, 1-3) took a 6-0 lead on Mike Alexanian’s 10-yard touchdown run, capping off a seven-play, 53-yard drive on its opening possession. The Herald offense was stopped the rest of the game, however.

Nick Valdez was the Heralds’ leading rusher with 71 yards in 15 carries.

After gaining only 50 yards in the first half, Calvary Chapel exploded for 218 yards in the second half, all on the ground. Meanwhile, Whittier Christian was held to 118 yards in the second half, 223 yards for the game.

With the Eagles holding a 7-6 halftime lead, Calvary Chapel used the ground game and the clock to perfection. A 13-play, 75-yard drive that took more than seven minutes ended with Nash’s first one-yard touchdown run of the night. Kuhn carried the ball eight times for 62 yards on the drive, giving the Eagles a 13-6 lead.
