SANTA ANA — David Bedard scored five touchdowns and gained 140 total yards as Servite routed Santa Ana, 40-0, in a Golden West League game Friday night at Santa Ana Stadium.
Bedard accumulated 139 of his yards and four of his touchdowns in the first half. He also had a 35-yard touchdown run in the first half erased by a holding penalty.
After starting the opening drive on its 36 (its worst field position of the night), Servite (8-2, 5-0) started on Santa Ana’s side of the field seven of their remaining nine possessions. The Saints’ (1-9, 1-4) never started a drive on Servite’s side of the field. Servite also turned Santa Ana turnovers into 21 points.
Bedard started early, scoring on a 58-yard touchdown run on the game’s second play to give the Friars a 6-0 lead.
After the Saints failed on a fourth-down opportunity, Bedard scored on an 11-yard run three plays later. The two-point conversion failed and the Friars led, 12-0.
Bedard then scored from three yards out with 9 minutes 58 seconds left in the first half to give Servite a 19-0 lead. A 31-yard pass from David Martin to Bedard made it 26-0. Bedard had more total yards in the first half than Santa Ana (139-138).
Bedard carried the ball only once in the second half, and that produced a one-yard touchdown run to make it 33-0.
