Fixed-Asset Investment Slows: China’s investment in fixed assets grew half as fast in October as it did in September due to government attempts to cool the economy. Economists watch fixed asset investment figures in China as a key inflation indicator and measure of economic overheating. The State Statistics Bureau reported that fixed asset investment by state units grew 22.5% in October over the year-earlier month, down from a 46.1% growth rate in September.
