Coach: Kino Oaxaca (seventh year).
1993-94: 18-6-5, 8-1-1 in the Empire League; lost in Division II finals to Mater Dei, 4-1.
Key returners: Shaun Anderson, fullback, Sr.; Ryan Pirski, halfback, Sr.; Albert Raya, halfback, Sr.; Marc Rodieck, forward, Jr.; Victor Tiborczszeghy, sweeper, Sr.; Jason Wolf, stopper, Sr.
Key newcomers: Adam DeLuca, forward, Jr.; Tommy LaRochelle, keeper, Sr.; Aaron Pugmire, forward, Jr.
Outlook: Oaxaca’s teams have reached the Division II playoff finals three of the last seven seasons, but they must take a different path this season as they move to the powerful Sunset League. Esperanza’s strength will be on defense with Tiborczszeghy, the team’s fastest player, and Anderson, both second-team All-Empire League selections. Wolf was also a second-team member, and Rodieck returns after missing last season with a broken leg. Esperanza’s power was up front last season with Mark Alleman, the league’s offensive MVP. “The skill level and depth is a lot better now,” Oaxaca said. “Last year, we concentrated on one player (Alleman).”
