VENTURA : Bid to Allow Outdoor Vendors Advances
- Share via
Ventura shoppers may soon be able to buy cappuccino, flowers and hot dogs on street corners, thanks to a proposed ordinance approved by a City Council committee.
The council’s Economic Committee has recommended that the proposal allowing outdoor vendors be forwarded to the city Planning Commission. The commission will pass its recommendation on to the City Council for a final vote.
The ordinance would allow a vendor who purchases a $50 permit at City Hall to sell nonalcoholic beverages, food or produce outdoors in a commercial, industrial or park area.
The issue arose when a coffee vendor wanted to open a stall outside the Buenaventura Mall, but found that the city code had no provisions for outdoor carts, Councilwoman Rosa Lee Measures said.
