BURBANK : Rededication Set for Expanded Courthouse

City and county officials will hold rededication ceremonies next week for Burbank’s newly renovated courthouse, which has been expanded so that the court can begin trying felonies and other Superior Court cases.
About 32,000 square feet have been added to the 40-year-old courthouse at 300 E. Olive Ave., including a new Superior Court courtroom, a new municipal courtroom, court clerk’s offices, a jury facility and a detention area.
The expansion--funded by Los Angeles County--and an adjacent five-story parking structure, which opened last summer and was paid for by the city of Burbank, add up to $10 million in improvements to the courthouse this year, officials said.
The expansion, which has been in the works for about eight years, turns the building into a fully modern facility and alleviates its longstanding parking crunch.
The refurbished courthouse will meet Americans With Disabilities Act requirements and will also include new offices for the district attorney and public defender.
The rededication ceremony, scheduled for noon Monday at the courthouse, will include appearances by County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, Burbank Mayor Bill Wiggans and Municipal Judges Marion Gubler, David Schacter and Thomas Murphy.
