Mel Sheeler has been elected president of the 15-member board of directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Ventura.
The 52-year-old Sheeler, a Ventura County native, belonged to the club as a child.
“I was in it before it was called the Boys & Girls Club,” he said.
The nonprofit club serves more than 2,500 county children a year, many of them from disadvantaged homes. It offers activities, homework areas, game rooms, leadership clubs, music lessons, drama performances, arts and crafts and field trips.
Sheeler is general manager of Hilford Moving & Storage in Ventura. He was president of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce in 1992 and is a past-president of the East Ventura Kiwanis Club.
