PACOIMA — A man on probation for beating his wife shot her fatally after a domestic dispute, authorities alleged Wednesday.
Victor Andrade, 57, of Pacoima, was being held on suspicion of murdering his wife, Maria, after he was questioned, Lt. Joseph Garcia said.
Police have not yet established a motive for the slaying, he said.
Andrade was spotted running from the death scene and was arrested about three blocks away, Garcia said. The couple lived in the 10900 block of Herrick Avenue.
The 40-year-old victim was shot twice in the upper torso, Garcia said. The suspect apparently fired several shots at his wife from arm’s length, Garcia said.
Police seized a weapon they believe was used in the killing, Garcia said.
Garcia said Andrade had been arrested for battery in a dispute with his wife in 1993. The man was still on probation from that incident, Garcia said.
“He served some days in jail,” Garcia said. “I don’t know how long.”
The couple has four children, the oldest of whom is about 19 years old, police said.
