Ceradyne Inc.: The company said Thursday that it has been awarded a $3.5-million contract from the Department of Defense for ceramic bullet-proof vests.
The Orange-based company, which makes a variety of armor systems, said the government has the option of extending the contract twice, bringing the potential value of the deal to $9.5 million. The bullet-proof vests are designed to protect wearers from armor-piercing machine gun bullets.
