LAKE VIEW TERRACE : Funds Accepted for Boat Launch

The Los Angeles City Council formally accepted $1.79 million Friday from Los Angeles County to build boat launch facilities at the planned lake in the Hansen Dam Recreation Area.
In addition to the boat launch, the funds will underwrite construction of a driveway and parking area.
The money comes from Proposition A, the bond measure for park improvements that county voters approved in 1992. The boat launch is part of a larger project under way to create a swimming and recreational lake at the park.
Richard Klink, project manager, said he expected construction to begin on the launch in March, 1996, and said the facility could be open as early as June or July of that year. In the meantime, the design work will be performed, as well as contract bidding and the obtaining of city approvals, Klink said.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which owns the park, and the city Parks Department are jointly running the project.
Klink said the boat launch could be as short as 50 feet, accommodating two boats, or as long as 100 feet, accommodating four boats.
