CAMARILLO : Clinic Organized to Offer Measles Shots
- Share via
Facing a countywide measles epidemic with 39 confirmed or suspected cases, public health officials have organized a special immunization clinic next week in Camarillo.
The clinic will operate from 1:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1201 E. Paseo Camarillo, behind City Hall.
Children should receive their first measles vaccine between 12 and 15 months of age. A second shot can be given after age 4.
Because the disease is highly contagious, adults and teen-agers who have not had their second immunization are urged to get one.
In addition to the special measles clinic, public health officials will continue to give low-cost immunizations at clinics in Ventura, Oxnard and Simi Valley.
Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes. A rash follows in three to seven days.
Anyone who believes they have been infected should call the county Public Health Department or their physician immediately. Some of the suspected cases reported in recent days have turned out not to be measles.
