BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Canyon Girls Win, Clinch Century Title

Sarah Spjut had 18 points and 10 rebounds help Canyon to a 69-41 victory over El Modena that clinched the Century League girls’ basketball title for the host Comanches.
Robynn Kuhlmann added 14 points and six assists for Canyon (18-6, 8-0), which outscored El Modena, 24-6, in the second quarter to take a 42-16 lead.
In other Century League games:
Villa Park 61, Foothill 40--Missy Bynon scored 18 and Mary Jo Pennington had 11 points and 14 rebounds for Villa Park (12-9, 5-3). Katy Steinle scored 17 for Foothill.
Santa Ana Valley 69, Orange 31--Allison Napier scored 23 points and had 15 rebounds for Santa Ana Valley (14-7, 5-3). Velina Gibson added 14 points and nine assists and Tanya Whitlock scored 10.
In the Empire League:
Kennedy 53, Loara 52--Karin Kitagawa made a free throw with two seconds remaining to give Kennedy the victory. Kitagawa had 16 points and Erryn Gutjahr, who tied the score with a free throw with 40 seconds left, had 15 for the Fighting Irish (14-7, 6-2).
Katella 49, Century 39--Kristy Kette had 13 points and Michelle Bye had 12 for host Katella (6-15, 2-7).
In the Garden Grove League:
Los Amigos 44, Santiago 40--Carmela Peralta scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter as Los Amigos (9-11, 5-5) outscored Santiago, 24-9, to rally.
In the Freeway League:
Buena Park 42, Sunny Hills 33--Sandra Chavez scored 15 and Patricia Cetorelli had 12 for host Buena Park (1-17, 1-7).
La Habra 53, Fullerton 36--Brooke Koehler had 17 points and Amy Lien had 15 for host La Habra (15-6, 7-1).
In the Golden West League:
Westminster 69, Tustin 63--April Ramirez had 19 points, including four three-pointers, and Amber Farroux had 14 points for host Westminster (14-9, 6-2). Allison Carr had 17 points for Tustin (9-14, 1-7).
Rosary 74, Saddleback 43--Erin Osajima scored 21 points, including four three-pointers to break the single-season school record with 32, and had 11 assists for Rosary (13-5, 5-3).
In the Orange League:
Western 82, Savanna 54--Adrienne Ratajczak had 26 points and 16 rebounds and Jennifer Christensen had 27 points and seven assists for host Western (11-8, 5-3).
Brea Olinda 106, Valencia 40--Marissa Bradley scored 20 points, Lee Moulin had 18 points and Sara Zachry had 17 points for host Brea (21-2, 8-0). Each team shot 40 free throws.
Magnolia 53, Anaheim 37--Andrea Picchi had 24 points and 14 rebounds for visiting Magnolia (15-6, 5-3).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Estancia 47, Costa Mesa 45--Jessica Waltz made a free throw with 11 seconds left to give Estancia (14-6, 4-4) a two-point lead. Karla Dominguez led Estancia with 14 points. Corri Lurmann had 20 points for Costa Mesa (15-7, 5-3).
Aliso Niguel 57, Laguna Beach 19--Deanna Mitchelson scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds for host Aliso Niguel (7-14, 2-6).
In the Sea View League:
Newport Harbor 70, Corona del Mar 32--Jenny Jennings scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds as No. 8 Newport Harbor (18-4, 7-1) remained one game behind league-leading Woodbridge. Lindsey Warmington had 11 for Corona del Mar.
Woodbridge 89, Irvine 27--Erin Stovall had 23 points and Melanie Pearson 20 for host Woodbridge (22-1, 8-0), ranked No. 1 in the county. Shawnee Stevens had 11 for Irvine.
Santa Margarita 45, El Toro 39--Shannon Noonan scored 10 points for visiting Santa Margarita (6-10, 2-6).
In the South Coast League:
Mater Dei 73, Trabuco Hills 49--Melody Peterson had 26 points and Ronnie Gondringer had 12 points for No. 2 Mater Dei (18-1, 7-0). Dyanna Hatch had 23 points for host Trabuco Hills (16-6, 4-4).
In Garden Grove League boys’ basketball:
La Quinta 72, Bolsa Grande 37--Greg Greenfield tied a season-high with 28 points and added eight rebounds for La Quinta (14-10, 8-3), which clinched a share of the league championship.
Garden Grove 68, Rancho Alamitos 54--Mike Campuzano scored 18 points and Jason Levasseur 15 for visiting Garden Grove (13-11, 7-4).
