Animals: Pigs, Research and Schmoozing

The Westside section of the Los Angeles Times on Jan. 15, 1995 reports on the activities of Last Chance for Animals--a group of animal rights activists, and the “researchers” who oppose them. Accompanying the article is a large picture of Dr. John Young of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center schmoozing with a pig to be used in research.
Who could find fault with a researcher schmoozing with a pet pig? Why don’t you tell the real story? Why don’t you tell what Dr. John Young is going to do to the pig, and whether or not anesthetics will be used on the pig while he does it? How about some investigative reporting into what goes on in medical research labs, and what it is exactly that animal rights activists are protesting?
