Anti-Semitic Crimes Increase in Germany

BONN — The number of anti-Semitic crimes rose in Germany last year even as the frequency of right-wing extremist violence declined overall, authorities said Monday.
Figures compiled by the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution showed there were 802 crimes of an anti-Semitic nature recorded by Nov. 15, 1994, a spokesman said. That contrasts with 656 incidents in all of 1993 and 627 in 1992.
The number of violent anti-Semitic crimes, however, slipped to 61 for the year as a whole from 72 in 1993, he said.
