BURBANK — A tanker carrying 7,000 gallons of oil overturned on the Golden State Freeway on Monday night, blocking the roadway for about a hour, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident closed all southbound lanes at Magnolia Boulevard about 8:45 p.m., said CHP Officer Shirley Gaines. About 40 gallons of oil spilled onto the pavement, forcing motorists to use the freeway shoulder to pass, she added.
The lanes were expected to be closed for about an hour as workers cleaned up the oil, Gaines said.
