WASHINGTON — Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, welcomed 150 gay and lesbian activists to their home Friday night, saying they share their wish for “a society that is fair and free from discrimination.”
“It’s a wonderful thing to do what you’re doing, and that’s devoting your lives to others,” Gore told the guests, most of them officers and members of the Human Rights Campaign Fund. “This dedication is an outgrowth of the way you live your entire lives.”
Mrs. Gore also lauded the guests for their efforts in the fight against AIDS, a cause for which she also works. “I want to encourage you and tell you, as you know, we have a tough fight with the new Congress but we will work very hard with you,” Mrs. Gore said.
