NHL ROUNDUP : Rangers’ Nedved Breaks Slump With a Breakaway

With nothing but open ice and an Ottawa Senators’ goaltender ahead of him, Petr Nedved broke out of his slump to lead the New York Rangers to a 4-3 victory Monday night at New York.
Nedved, whose three goals this season have all come against the last-place Senators, scored his first goal in 15 games at 5:29 of the third period to help the Rangers overcome a 3-1 deficit.
Nedved picked up Jay Wells’ bouncing lead pass, outraced Senator defenseman Dennis Vial and beat goaltender Don Beaupre on the breakaway.
“Once I knew I was onside and it was just the goalie, my eyes lit up,” Nedved said.
Quebec 6, New Jersey 3--Owen Nolan had the fifth three-goal game of his career as the Nordiques won at Quebec to move into first place in the NHL’s overall standings.
Detroit 5, Vancouver 2--Paul Coffey and Bob Errey scored 15 seconds apart late in the first period at Vancouver.
