Coaches: Joe Koh, Corona del Mar; Tom McCaffrey, El Toro; Bob Flint, Irvine; Kirk Bates, Newport Harbor; Tip Lefebvre, Santa Margarita; Sam Favata, Woodbridge.
Facts and Figures: Santa Margarita returns all nine starters and is the favorite to win the league. The Eagles are deep in experience--15 seniors and six juniors make up their 21-man roster. . . . Newport Harbor returns eight starters, including Joe Urban, who tied for second in the county in home runs (seven) last season. . . . Corona del Mar is expected to be a factor in the race. . . . Woodbridge should combine good pitching with average hitting. . . . Irvine returns six starters, but even Flint admits, “We have too many unknowns to be overly optimistic.” . . . El Toro’s pitching staff returns a combined five victories from last season.

Highlights: Tustin, now in the Golden West League, won the league title by five games. Saddleback (also now in the Golden West) and Irvine were part of a five-way tie for second and went to the Division III playoffs. Saddleback and Tustin were eliminated in the second round; Irvine lost in the wild-card game. . . . Saddleback pitcher Tony Zuniga was voted player of the year.
