World IN BRIEF : BURUNDI : Assassination Adds to Ethnic Tension

A gunman shot and killed Mines and Energy Minister Ernest Kabushemeye in Bujumbura, the capital, aggravating tense relations between the majority Hutu population and the Tutsi minority. Foreign Minister Jean Marie Ngendahayo, a Hutu, suggested that the killing was part of a Tutsi plot. There are concerns that ethnic violence in Burundi could erupt in a manner similar to last year’s slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people in neighboring Rwanda.
