Cellular One Installs ‘Microcells’ Along Highway

Cellular One has installed four “microcells” to help bring cellular and emergency phone service to a nine-mile stretch along Pacific Coast Highway.
The company says its cellular phone customers will now have service in an area between Point Mugu and the Ventura-Los Angeles county line that previously did not have such service.
Cellular says the project makes possible the use of 28 emergency call boxes in the same area.
Brian Quinn, Cellular One’s cell-site development manager, said the new services are the culmination of two years of development and research.
“We have designed the entire microcell modular unit to be underground to ensure that the natural beauty of the scenic coastline is preserved,” he added.
