Coach: Shelly Luth (fifth year).
1994: 26-2, 13-1 in the Sunset League. Seeded No. 1, won the Division I title, 2-0, over Foothill.
Key returners: Angela Alvarez, OF, Sr.; Candice Bellino, OF, Sr.; Marcy Crouch, P, Sr.; Kelly Flowers, P/DH, Jr.; Faith Fuata, OF, Sr.; Jennifer Hoff, OF, Jr.; Becky Thompson, 2B, Sr.; Stacey Thompson, OF, Sr.; Lynette Velazquez, 1B, Sr.; Heather Williams, C, Sr.
Key newcomers: Angela Burke, SS, Sr.; Holly Leonard, P/Util., So.; Monica Mora, 3B/OF, Jr.
Outlook: What don’t the Vikings have? Speed. But they do have the best big-game player in the section in Crouch (0.21 ERA, .350 batting average, Stanford-bound) and they have experience; seven of the 10 starters from last year’s section championship game return. Junior third baseman Heather Hibben will miss the season because of bronchitis and pneumonitis. The Vikings have some big bombers in their lineup, including Velazquez (.452), Fuata (.417), Williams (.350, Michigan State) and Burke (.339, Regis). Marina is easily the county’s preseason No. 1 pick.
