PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : El Dorado Takes Care of Cypress

El Dorado opened its Empire League baseball season Friday by defeating Cypress, 10-4, but Golden Hawk Coach Steve Gullotti said his team still needs work.
“We were lucky today,” Gullotti said. “Cypress is a tough ballclub. They kept coming at us all afternoon.”
El Dorado (4-1, 1-0) took an 8-1 lead after four innings, with six of their runs unearned. Of the Hawks’ 10 runs, five were scored on wild pitches or bases-loaded walks.
“We were fortunate to capitalize on Cypress’ mistakes,” Gullotti said. “We have to start hitting the ball.”
Don Jamieson (4-0) went the distance for El Dorado, improving his record to 15-0 in the last two season. “His fastball was not as good as it usually is, so he relied on his changeup and curveball,” Gullotti said. “He is a competitor. He’s been like that the past two years.”
El Dorado’s Chris Beck did what a leadoff hitter should do. He reached base all four times, scoring four runs. He hit a bases-empty home run to left, his first of the season.
Vince Ammirato went three for four and Matt Shelton had two hits and one run scored for Cypress (3-3, 0-1).
