NATION IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : CNN to Broadcast Address by Gingrich

CNN became the first television network to announce plans to broadcast a planned nationwide, prime-time speech next week by House Speaker Newt Gingrich. In a brief statement, CNN said it had “offered equal time to the Democrats to respond to Gingrich’s speech,” which is expected to mark the completion of the Republicans’ “contract with America” and map a follow-up legislative agenda. CNN also said Gingrich would be questioned after his 30-minute speech by two network correspondents.
