3 Area Middle School Teachers Win Awards

Three San Fernando Valley teachers were among the top middle-school instructors honored by FHP Health Care as “Teachers of the Year.”
James Gleason from Pacoima, Robert Hayes from Millikan and Michael Ann Zerwer from Sepulveda middle schools each won $500 scholarships to be used to pay for seminars or instructional materials.
The health care company chose to honor middle school teachers because they are often overshadowed by elementary and high school teachers’ achievements, said Nova Hunn, an FHP spokeswoman.
The Valley teachers were ranked within the top five teachers of 44 from the Los Angeles Unified School District, all of whom were recognized last week for their work at a reception at the Westin Bonaventure in Downtown Los Angeles.
