Parks in the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District will be sprouting more trees with the help of a federal program, officials said Friday.
The district received a $23,300 grant to pay small businesses to plant 233 trees in area parks, said Rick Johnson, a spokesman for the district.
The intent of the grant is to help small businesses in the area as well as provide more shade in area parks, Johnson said.
The district will spend an additional $42,000 for the program. Stargaze Neighborhood Park will get 106 trees and the Simi Hills Public Golf Course will get 66. The remaining trees will be planted at 18 other park sites, Johnson said.
All the trees will be natives, including native oaks and pines.
