SYLMAR — Civic leader Frank Modugno--who served on the boards of Mission College and Holy Cross Medical Center--was killed Sunday when he lost control of his car and slammed into a brick wall in Sylmar, Los Angeles police said.
Modugno, 74, of San Fernando, died when his Cadillac veered out of control about 11:55 a.m. Sunday and hit a wall at the northwest corner of the intersection of Sayre Street and Foothill Boulevard, police said.
Police and Modugno’s friend Joe Franklin speculated that Modugno may have suffered a heart attack immediately before the crash.
“Frank was a wonderful fellow,” Franklin said. “I’ll miss him.”
No one else was injured.
