H. Adams Carter; Mountaineering Journal’s Editor

H. Adams Carter, a pioneering mountaineer and editor of the American Alpine Journal for the past 35 years, has died. He was 80.
He died April 2 at his home in Milton, Mass., of an apparent embolism.
Carter was a member of the 1936 Anglo-American expedition that made the first ascent of 25,645-foot Nanda Devi in India, the highest peak climbed until the French ascent of Annapurna in 1950. He also led a number of successful expeditions to the Cordillera Blanca in South America.
