ATF Gear Mistaken for Bombs

OKLAHOMA CITY — Rescue workers had to stop their meticulous search for victims of a federal building explosion time and again Wednesday as they came across what they thought might be more bombs.
What they kept finding, however, was equipment the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms was storing in the Alfred P. Murrah Building, Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Bill Martin said.
Assistant Fire Chief Jon Hansen said a rocket launcher was among the things found by searchers. It was already in the building, he said.
Hansen said any other bombs or explosives in the building would have been set off by the powerful blast.
